Os acidentes industriais ocorridos nos últimos anos no Brasil e no mundo trazem à tona o debate sobre a sua prevenção. Evidenciar certa relação causal e temporal entre as decisões que precedem as grandes catástrofes é quase inevitável depois que o evento se declara. Mas, como agir no presente, para evitar que os infortúnios se repitam? Uma solução que se pretenda perene não pode negligenciar o papel do trabalho na segurança industrial. Por isso, esse artigo pretende contribuir para a discussão sobre a relação entre a produção de petróleo offshore e a segurança nessa indústria. O ponto de vista privilegiado é o do trabalho nas plataformas de produção situadas na costa brasileira, que operam há mais de 20 anos. Com base na Análise Ergonômica do Trabalho, foi construída uma metodologia de diagnóstico rápido das condições de trabalho, aplicada em 20 plataformas diferentes entre os anos de 2011 e 2015. Repertoriar esses casos permitiu conhecer o trabalho das principais equipes a bordo e as origens do modo atual de funcionamento das unidades. As análises apontaram contribuições positivas dos trabalhadores para compensar os problemas técnicos das instalações, dispositivos e sistemas, e a degradação das plataformas. A atuação das equipes embarcadas mostrou-se essencial para manter a segurança, confiabilidade e a resiliência dessas unidades. O risco da produção de petróleo offshore está intimamente relacionado às possibilidades de prevenção de acidentes de processo. A análise do “aqui e agora” do trabalho das equipes operacionais, aliada a uma avaliação diacrônica das instalações, permite compreender o funcionamento atual das plataformas e a construir medidas preventivas.

The industrial accidents that have occurred in recent years in Brazil and in the world bring to the fore the debate about their prevention. Evidence of a certain causal and temporal relationship between the decisions preceding major catastrophes is almost inevitable after the event is declared. But how to act in the present, to prevent misfortune from recurring? A perennial solution can not neglect the role of work in industrial safety. Therefore, this article intends to contribute to the discussion about the relationship between the production of offshore oil and the safety in this industry. The privileged point of view is the work on production platforms located on the Brazilian coast, which have been operating for more than 20 years. Based on the Ergonomic Analysis of Work, a methodology was developed for rapid diagnosis of working conditions, applied in 20 different platforms between the years 2011 and 2015. Repertorying these cases allowed to know the work of the main teams on board and the origins of the mode current operation of the units. The analyzes pointed to positive contributions from workers to compensate for the technical problems of installations, devices and systems, and the degradation of platforms. The performance of the embedded teams was essential to maintain the safety, reliability and resilience of these units. The risk of offshore oil production is closely related to the possibilities of process accident prevention. The analysis of the "here and now" of the work of the operational teams, together with a diachronic evaluation of the facilities, allows to understand the current functioning of the platforms and to construct preventive measures.
