No Brasil, a partir da década de 1990, houve um crescimento expressivo do ensino superior, tanto no setor público, quanto no privado. Este artigo focaliza o trabalho docente em uma IES (Instituição de Ensino Superior) do setor privado, situada na Região Sudeste do Brasil. O objetivo geral é analisar a carga de trabalho docente, em seus múltiplos aspectos, à luz da expansão nesse setor. Para seu desenvolvimento, foram realizadas pesquisas: bibliográfica, documental e de campo. A última constituiu-se de duas etapas sequenciais e complementares. Na primeira fase, foram obtidos dados quantitativos e, em seguida, foi feito um afunilamento para um estudo de caso individual, com abordagem qualitativa. O cotidiano docente foi acompanhado e descrito numa perspectiva ergonômica e ergológica que também é o referencial teórico adotado. A pesquisa mapeou as múltiplas dimensões da carga de trabalho e sua repercussão sobre todos os docentes. Os resultados obtidos apontam que há uma circulação entre o que é coletivo e o singular, num equilíbrio instável em que, tanto se opera o cumprimento coletivo das regras institucionais, quanto ocorre uma gestão individual que pode, em última análise, impactar sensivelmente a carga de trabalho docente.

In Brazil, from the 1990s, there was a significant increase in higher education, both in the public and private sectors. This article focuses on teaching work at a private sector HEI (Higher Education Institution) located in the Southeast Region of Brazil. The general objective is to analyze the teaching workload, in its multiple aspects, in light of the expansion in this sector. For its development, researches were carried out: bibliographical, documentary and field. The latter consisted of two sequential and complementary steps. In the first phase, quantitative data were obtained and then a bottleneck was made for an individual case study with a qualitative approach. The daily teaching was accompanied and described in an ergonomic and ergological perspective that is also the theoretical reference adopted. The research mapped the multiple dimensions of the workload and its repercussion on all teachers. The results show that there is a movement between what is collective and the singular, in an unstable equilibrium in which both the collective fulfillment of institutional rules operates, and an individual management that can, ultimately, significantly impact the teaching work.
